WHAT AN AMAZING DAY!!! A one-point showdown in the Regional Finals

Seventeen teams competed their hearts out today in what has been the greatest regional final imaginable.  It was a snowy day at Northeastern's Cabral Center, but that didn't slow down any of these New England teams.  By one in the afternoon, we were down to a final three: Bogunquit (Natick Middle School), Peraditi (The Bancroft School in Worcester), and Sky City (Birchland Park Middle School in East Longmeadow).  And the winner is...

Throughout the morning, the teams stood by their models as they showed off their creations to Special Award judges and then the other teams for the "People's Choice Award".

The Mathcad Award for the most descriptive narrative goes to Clear Sky City from Rye, New Hampshire.

The Northeastern University Award for Best Educational system goes to Acropolis of Hope from The Latimer Society's G.A.M.E.S program in Chelsea.

THe AECOM Award for the Most Innovative Concept goes to Sky City from East Longmeadow.

The Greenman-Pedersen Award for Most Family Friendly City goes to Magnaduratopia from the Salem Cyberspace Program.

The New England Bridge Contractors' Award for the Best Moving Part goes to Tropical Surf from the Umana School in East Boston.

The Parsons Brinckerhoff Award for Most Environmentally Friendly City goes to Cocoa Beans Island from Girls, Inc. of Lynn.

The Massachusetts General Hospital Award for Best Medical Facilities goes to Clear Sky City of Rye, New Hampshire.

The People's Choice Award goes to Sky City of East Longmeadow.

The second runner up...Bogunquit from Natick Middle School.

First runner up...Sky City of East Longmeadow

and the winner is...

Peraditi from the Bancroft School in Worcester.

Everybody had a wonderful time and talk was strong about looking forward to doing it all again next year.

Congratulations to teacher Sarah Williams, mentor Alyson Stuer and the members of the Peraditi team from the Bancroft School.  You can personally congratulate them at the Engineers Week New England Awards Luncheon at the Radisson on Stuart Street in Boston.  They will be a feature of the Outreach Expo preceeding the Awards Luncheon as well starting at 11 AM on Friday February 17th.  Tickets are available at www.engineers.org.  Also look for them on a future episode of Civil Engineering Today (on local Boston cable but streamed on YouTube soon after).
