Welcome to the Kansas Great Plains Region!

As event organizers, we believe that the Future City Competition provides opportunities for the children in our community by preparing them academically in science and mathematics.  This will open doors in higher education to help them reach their goals and achieve their future dream job.  Many of these jobs—from developing medical technologies to energy resources—require knowledge of engineering principles and objectives.

As Future City participants, students will:

●        Gain academic and employment skills, such as mapping, building, and using scale models; project and time management; and using technology to collaborate and create.

●        Learn engineering habits of mind, including systems thinking, perseverance, and attention to ethical considerations.

●        Sharpen their reasoning, observation, inquiry, and strategy skills.

●        Be introduced to a variety of engineering and technology careers.

●        Develop skills necessary to work collaboratively with peers and take pride in one’s work.

About:

The Kansas Great Plains Region has been participating in this competition since 2005.  We have consistently sought to improve the regional experience and plan for this, our 7th regional competition, to be our best yet.  For those of you that are unfamiliar with our region, the event location alternates between Kansas University and Kansas State University.  This year the competition will be held on January 21st, 2012 on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence, Kansas.
