Privacy Statement

National Engineers' Week Future City Competition is committed to providing an environment which respects and protects the privacy of its web users. We have designed this Privacy Statement to explain how we handle information collected by our site and how this may affect our users.

Information Collection & Use

Information Sharing and Disclosure

Uses of information
Information submitted to this site will be provided to agents of National Engineers' Week Future City Competition in order to facilitate competition registration and distribute pertinent competition information. These agents include the National Director, Regional Coordinators, staff and consultants.

Email addresses submitted to the Newsletter Signup form will be used to send periodic Newsletters via Email.

Aggregated information gathered by this site will be used by web site maintenance Service Providers for maintenance when necessary.

We do not link aggregate user data with personally identifiable information.

We do not provide collected personal information or aggregate user data to any third parties that are not our agents/service providers.

Service Providers
We use an outside service provider (AuthorizeNet) to complete credit card transactions in our registration system.  Their privacy policy may be found here: http://www.authorize.net/company/privacy/

We use an outside service provider (infopop aka Groupee) for our Online Forum.  Their privacy policy may be found here: http://about.groupee.com/docs/GroupeePrivacyPolicy.html

We use an outside service provider (Google) for our integrated Site Search function.  Their privacy policy may be found here: http://www.google.com/privacypolicy.html

We use an outside service provider (LocalPlay, Inc.) for web site programming and maintenance.  They helped develop and are bound by this privacy statement.

Choice/Opt-Out
This site takes a pro-active stance toward not contacting users unnecessarily, and we do not use your personally identifiable information for purposes other than those implicitly authorized by the method by which the information was transmitted (ie. Competition registration, Newsletter signup).

If you no longer wish to receive our newsletter and promotional communications, you may opt-out of receiving them by following the instructions included in each newsletter or by emailing us unsubscribe@futurecity.org, with the subject heading, "Remove."

Legal Disclaimer
We reserve the right to disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on our Web site.

Log Files

As is true of most Web sites, we gather certain information automatically and store it in log files.  This information includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, referring/exit pages, operating system, and date/time stamp.

We use this information, which does not identify individual users, to analyze trends and to administer the site.

We do not link this automatically-collected data to personally identifiable information.

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file that is stored on a user’s computer for record-keeping purposes.

This site does not use persistent cookies, but may use a temporary "session" cookie to make it easier for you to navigate our site.  Such a cookie expires when you close your browser window.

Cookies are not required to use this site and turning off cookies should not adversely affect public users of this site.

Service Providers (such as our Online Forum) may use cookies for login, information gathering or other purposes.  Refer to the “Service Providers” section of this document for further information.

Registration System

Our registration system collects information necessary for registration in the National Engineers Week Future City Competition such as name, school, address, phone number, and email address.  The system also logs the IP (Internet) address of the registrant as well as the date/time of Registrations in order to provide a means of verifying the legitimacy of a registration. If a registration is paid by credit card, this site stores only the last four digits of the card number and the transaction confirmation number for future verification purposes only.

Registration data may be provided to:

  • Regional coordinators for the purposes of organizing regional competitions, invoicing registrants for applicable fees and distributing pertinent competition information
  • The National Director of National Engineers' Week Future City Competition™ for the purpose of organizing regional and/or national competition and distributing pertinent competition information
  • A Service Provider (LocalPlay, Inc.) for the purposes of site development and maintenance.
  • A Service Provider (AuthorizeNet) to facilitate online credit card transactions.

This information is not published publicly on this site.

Surveys

Surveys given to students will be tallied anonymously, and will not be linked back to personally identifying information. The internet address of each computer submitting a survey will be logged for possible diagnostic and duplicate removal purposes. Results of surveys may be published in aggregate on the site or elsewhere at a later date.

Email

Email sent via this site will be provided to the Future City Competition staff for the purpose of replying and/or addressing the email's subject.

Questions received and/or answers to questions sent via email may be published on this site where deemed relevant. (For example, in the FAQ section.) In this case, all personally identifying information will be removed from the text before publishing.

Third Party Advertisers

At this time this site contains no advertisements delivered by a third party.

Online Forum

If you use the forum linked to from site, you should be aware that any personally identifiable information you submit there can be read, collected, or used by other users of these forums, and could be used to send you unsolicited messages.  We are not responsible for the personally identifiable information you choose to submit in these forums.

Newsletter

If you wish to subscribe to our newsletter(s), we will use your name and email address to send the newsletter to you.  Out of respect for your privacy, we provide you a way to unsubscribe at the bottom of each email. Refer to the “Choice/Opt-out” section of this document for more information.

Security

The security of your personal information is of the utmost importance to us.  When you enter sensitive information (such as credit card number and/or social security number) on our registration form, we encrypt that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL), which is the standard for internet transaction security.  

We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it.  No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however.  Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
