Nano Nation

The natural disasters that plague us in NanoNation, California are earthquakes and wildfires, which are caused by our geological location and can be considered somewhat unique to our state. The use of nanotechnology in constructing our public buildings and in protecting them from these disasters is one of NanoNation’s most extraordinary accomplishments.

Domas Porada

Our city is truly a utopia on earth. We are located on the Western African coast perched between a steep mountain range and the Atlantic Ocean.  In this year, 2165, our population is 476,924. Over the past century, due to global warming and the rising ocean levels, most of the low flat coastal lands are now under water and our city thus has minimal land.  Approximately half of the city is built on a platform extending over the ocean waters supported by carbon titanium composite pillars.

Makt Stad

Makt Stad, Swedish for power city, is deserving of its name, as it is designed to unleash the power within every individual to make our city the best it can be. This effort begins with our unsurpassed education system. Learning styles can be visual, audio, tactile, or a combination.  Some people are literal thinkers, others are conceptual. Citizens can choose to be educated in a traditional school building, at home through a monitor system, or in an independent specialized learning center, customizing their education.

Qubitersum

In the year 2288, the world feared the unknown effects of nanotechnology. The greatest scientific minds met to devise a way to alleviate those fears.  They decided to take all of the projects dealing with nanotechnology to a remote part of Australia’s Simpson Desert. A research center rose from the sand.  Around the research center, a city started to form.  By the year 2360, Qubitersum had become the nano-center of the world.  Now, in the year 2538, nanotechnology has become a part of daily life.

TréPicolé Dinana

TréPicolé Dinana, like other modern cities of the world, felt the severe financial downturn from the increased oil prices during the early twenty-first century.  In order to rebound from such tremendous losses, our citizens decided to invest in nanotechnology to solve the island’s energy and financial crisis.  Scientists developed carbon nanotubes, which were combined with liquids.  Chemically engineered paint, as an inexpensive coating, became a simple solar collector for our buildings and structures.

Greensburg

On May 4, 2007, Greensburg, Kansas was struck by a devastating tornado. Approximately 85 percent of all standing structures were destroyed. Ten people were killed and many more were injured.  The citizens of Greensburg used this opportunity to establish a new direction for their city.  They initiated a plan to build a “green” city and provide inexpensive energy that would attract industry and growth.  With the help of skilled architects and engineers, they thought of innovative ways to integrate new technology and make the city sustainable and a safer place to live.

Shantihari

The name of our city, Shantihari, is a combination of two words in Hindi, which mean “peace” and “green.”  From the very beginning, quality in both the areas of the environment and service has been our goal. As our city was designed, we frequently placed a block of four components consisting of a school, a college, a museum, and a library to maximize learning for all of our citizens.  Our Rescue Triad of police, fire, and medical services provides another important service.  Located together in a building triplex, it is possible for all three of these services to be on the scene within minutes.  In addition, every neighborhood now has access to the Hover Bubble Program.

Hawking

Welcome to Hawking, the first settlement on Earth’s moon.  Founded late in the 21st century by the United Space Union (USU), it is a research, mining, and space exploration center.  Hawking is located by the moon’s North Pole in the Peary Crater where the temperature and sunlight are constant.  Water, hydrogen, and oxygen are produced from lunar soil.  One economic product is helium-3, mined from the soil, which powers Hawking and fuels space exploration.

Terra di Acqua

In the year 2212, much of Italy was thrust into a spiraling period of chaos after the massive and devastating eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Their thriving civilization crushed, a small band of Pompeian refugees fled the continent in search of a new start and a safe place to resurrect their practice of Aquology – the philosophy based on the premise that water is the purest of all things. Hence, the purity of their bodies and souls depended entirely upon the purity of the water they drank.

Imagine a city where culture and innovation become one, and history is a part of everyday life. This is Nuova Venezia, New Venice, a revitalized and redeveloped city that was once the “sinking city” of Venice.  To stop the troublesome sinking, the engineers in Nuova Venezia pumped smart concrete with carbon fibers into the foundations. Flooded buildings were restored, and buildings beyond repair were demolished. In their place, advanced buildings with “green” technology were constructed.

The City of Jabrinc is located in Queensland, Australia, on the ocean near the Great Barrier Reef.  This is where Steve Irwin is from, so every mayor has to change his name to Steve Irwin.  The city is named after the team members.  The climate is hot and dry in the winter and wet in the summer. There is an ozone hole that moves over the area and lots of the people have skin cancer when they get old.  The city needs cooling, protection from UV rays, a good water supply, and good clean sources of power.

Varavara

Varvara, meaning foreign glory, is a flourishing, environmentally healthy city located in eastern Bulgaria on the Kamchiya River. This settlement of 624,000 people has an average life span of 87 years. Varvara is powered with hydroelectric energy generated on the Kamchiya River to power our homes and commercial buildings.  Varvara’s principal infrastructures are bridges and elevated roads due to the mountainous terrain of Bulgaria. To confirm the strength of the components of our infrastructure, nanosensors are implanted in construction materials and continuously supply valuable data to our city’s control system.
